Brown Ale Music

(Celtic)

* * * * *

With Les Smith from Newfoundland and Glenn McFarlane from New Brunswick, it's obvious where this pair gets their love of Celtic and East Coast folk music. Les, now living in Mississauga, plays a multitude of instruments, including bass, tin whistle, Irish flute, concertina, accordion, bodhran, mandolin, banjolin, percussion, and is the primary vocalist, while Glenn, who lives in Brampton, plays guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, harmonica, accordion, percussion, and also sings.

They deliver a high-energy versatile show filled with songs from both sides of the Atlantic, lively jigs and reels, tender ballads (often a cappella!), and recitations. Their material varies considerably in both content and arrangement, from steadfastly traditional to very eclectic. They have been playing together since 1992.
