John Peterkin a lifelong fan of music and since 2002 a musician. After moving to Barrie ON in 2000 and befriending a couple of local musicians, John picked up the bongos and soon after the congas and started jamming anywhere they could. After a great summer jammin' up at Balm Beach as the weekend impromptu house band, a drummer and bassist were added and PipeDream was formed. "They taught me a lot and helped me really develop. The chemistry in the group was amazing and the sound was a Funk, Reggae, Rock mix and people really liked it." Soon after playing at the legendary "Kee to Bala" at the end of the summer of 2004, the two guitarists decided to move back to Vancouver Island. It didn't take much convincing for John to pack up what he could fit in his Pathfinder and head out west with them to keep the PipeDream alive. This is when John started playing guitar. "There's something relaxing about the vibe when you're living on an island mon." Both john's parents were born on islands. His Mom from P.E.I. and his Dad from Jamaica. Life soon took a big turn for John when he was hit with the news that his father was sick. His kidneys were completely shut down. "Once I found out I was a match I knew what I wanted to do." In April 2005 he successfully donated a kidney to his father. This absolute selfless gift gave his father a new lease on life. "I found a lot of strength before and after the whole experience of the surgery through the music I was starting to play & write living out west. I finally had something to sing about." Fast forward a few years later and John is back living in Barrie with his beautiful wife and three boys. These days music has become more of a past time for John and he always enjoys the opportunity to get out to an open mic to play a mix of cover songs and originals |
